Following a hugely successful campaign, organisers today announce that the deadline for submissions to UniSounds’18, the National Campus Music Competition will be extended until Friday 3rd August.
Live groups, solo performers, DJ's and electronic music producers from across the country have uploaded their tracks via the online portal to be assessed by a panel of senior executives and influencers within their field of the music industry. The expansive judging panel includes representatives from Dine Alone Records, Sony Music, Kobalt Music, Top Dog Group, Sounds Australia plus ARIA-award winning Producer, John Castle - visit the website for the full list.
Four winners will be selected by the judging panel for the live final, and two additional finalists will earn a place via the Wild Card voting system - with the most popular live artist and electronic artist joining the party.
Previously known as the National Campus Band Competition (NCBC) which ran for more than 25 years, the rebranded UniSounds is in its second year of a fresh, digital format and is open to tertiary students from more than 80 institutions around Australia and, for the first time, New Zealand. Submissions must have a minimum of one currently enrolled student from an eligible campus in the line-up to compete at the live final in September this year.
The life-changing, $100,000 prize package includes an EP recording and deal with worldwide release via the legendary Dine Alone Records (City & Colour, AlexisOnFire, The Dandy Warhols), publicity support, a photoshoot, touring opportunities, clothing packages and money-can’t-buy industry networking.
Four-piece punk band Jones the Cat, hailing from the University of Newcastle, took out the title in 2017 after winning a Wild Card position at the Final and as a result they have been working with industry heavyweights to record and prepare their debut EP. Since their win, the lads have released their single ‘Wasted' and completed a headline tour across national University campuses in February. Jones the Cat have jumped head-first into the opportunities the competition has thrown at them and are set for a massive end to 2018 - check out their tune ‘Wasted’ here.
Head to unisounds.com.au to check out the artist profiles and while you are there, throw some votes on your top tracks before Friday 3rd August to have your say in the Wild Card winners.
