What is the TAG Barista of the Year Competition?

For many years, buying a coffee on an Australian campus was an adventure in itself...one could never be certain of the outcome!

Members understood that students deserved quality coffee that could match anything off-campus, and plenty of heart and soul was being poured (pun intended!) into improving what was on offer. In 2010, we launched the TAG Campus Barista of the Year competition, to help showcase the talent out there.

In this annual search for the best coffee specialist on Australian campuses, we have proven that coffee on campus in this country can match the best on offer anywhere.

Internal campus heats are held at the beginning of each year, with state heats contested at the end of April. State winners are flown to CampusLink to contest the finals, proudly supported by our competition coffee partner, Vittoria Coffee.

The Current Champ:

Congratulations to Sarah Lim from Murdoch Student Guild, who put in a very strong performance this year at CampusLink 2019 in Sydney to defeat a talented band of baristas representing The University of Sydney Union, Canberra Institute of Technology Student Association and Murdoch Student Guild.

After a fun but challenging day, with coffee after coffee being presented to the panel of judges, the winner was finally announced from the closely-scored field.

Sarah's prize was the TAG Campus Barista trophy and a $500 cash prize, along with an espresso machine valued at more than $2,000 kindly donated by Vittoria Coffee. And of course, the title of "Campus Barista of the Year"
