The TAG Campus Barista of the Year Competition
The 2014 TAG Campus Barista of the Year Competition has come to and end, with the winner recently decided at CampusLink 2014, our industry conference and trade fair in Sydney.
Congratulations to Kevin Mitchem from Curtin Student Guild in Perth, who put in a very strong perfermance to defeat a tialented band of baristas representing UQU, Flinders One and Macquarie University Campus Life.
Internal heats were held on campuses across the country, with state heats contested at the end of August. The state winners were flown to Sydney to contest the finals, which was proudly supported by our coffee partner, Vittoria Coffee, and milk sponsor Parmalat Australia.
After a fun, but challenging two hours, with coffee after coffee being presented to the panel of judges led by Shaun Cooper of Vittoria Coffee, with Shae MacNamara from Grinders Coffee and Luke Coghlan of DE Master Blenders, the winner was finally announced from the closely-scored field.
Congratulations again to all finalists, who proved that coffee on campus in this country can match the best on offer anywhere. Kevin's prize was the TAG Campus Barista trophy and a $500 cash prize, along with a espresso machine valued at more than $1,000 kindly donated by Vittoria Coffee.
