The TAG Flag - Corporate Social Responsibility And Sustainable Development
The TAG Flag Initiative has been structured within the international definition of Corporate Social Responsibility and the universally recognised frame work of the TRIPLE BOTTOM LINE - Planet - People - Profit.
Current best practices widely accept that sustainable practices promote the capacity for biological systems and cycles to remain diverse, productive and to endure. This also meets the UN definition of sustainable development being "development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs".
All communities and businesses depend on the services that healthy ecosystems provide. These include freshwater, wood, genetic resources, pollination, climate regulation and natural hazard protection to name a few. The degradation of any ecosystem jeopardizes not only the world's biodiversity and its people but its businesses as well. Sustainable practices therefore not only assist in maintaining biological diversity and species survival, they also provide better long term economic outcomes for all.
It is TAG's view that companies instigating sustainable practices deliberately embrace responsibility for the impact their company's activities have on Global & Local Environments, Support of Biodiversity, Communities, Employees, Consumers and Stakeholders. In light of this, the TAG FLAG Initiative aims to promote companies that are not merely self interest driven but also strive for a common good that honours the triple line and who strive to support and promote sustainable practices that bring back balance between community, environment & economy.
The TAG FLAG Initiative covers two criteria. The first, the Company Profile, assesses company ethics and triple bottom line operating procedures, the second, The Product/Contract Category Profile covers the product category which expands to incorporate all current sustainability best practice protocol check lists.
TAG foresees businesses who genuinely respond to the challenges of sustainable commerce and the need for a return to balance through the development and leadership of processes, products and services that respect and reduce impact on the environment as not only returning a vital element to the ethics of global business but gaining consumer respect as well. Increasing demand for this type of business ethics from a more informed TAG member based community ensures a thriving interest in the ongoing contributions these businesses make.
Each company initiating the TAG Flag product & contract category checklist will progress through a comprehensive questionnaire that addresses all of the above mentioned criteria. Each product category consists of 6 components. Answers to the questions will be calculated and displayed as percentages in accordance to the overall amount of green components within the product. The more green components a company's product aligns with, the higher the green rating for that particular product or contract category. Each company will also will progress through a comprehensive TAG Flag questionnaire that addresses all of the above mentioned criteria on a company-wide basis. Each company category consists of 5 components. Similar to the Product and Contract Category process, answers to the questions are calculated and displayed as percentages in accordance to the overall amount of green components within the company. The more green components a company's ethos aligns with, the higher the green rating for that particular company.
